We shoot Hunters!

First day of hunting permits sold over 600 permits
More than 600 permits to hunt bears this fall were sold by mid-afternoon Monday, the first day in more than two decades that such licenses have been available in Florida.

The sale of the special-use permits began despite a lawsuit that was filed Friday against the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to halt the hunt.

The state hasn’t estimated how many permits — which cost $100 for Florida residents and $300 for non-residents — will be bought by Oct. 23, the day before the hunt begins.

The hunt is planned to last two to seven days, depending on the number of bears killed.

23 days until the first day of the hunt?
There will be two to seven days of the hunt, if our hunters learn how to read?
So!

Remembering Cecil, everyone's pet lion murdered by a crazed hunter with a rifles loaded to the hilt with a silencer on it!

In theory there could in fact be 6,000 plus Black Bears killed before a judge can rule that the hunt is illegal because it is against Florida's law to kill a Black Bear!

Lawsuit Seeks To Halt Return Of Bear Hunting

By JIM TURNER OF THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA • 14 hours ago

The lawsuit doesn't ask for a judge to halt the commission from offering the permits. However, Speak Up Wekiva and groups supporting the lawsuit -- the Sierra Club, the Massachusetts-based Environmental Action, the League of Women Voters of Florida and the Center for Biological Diversity -- want the state agency to suspend permitting until the lawsuit is settled.

"If they do sell the permits, and the hunt is ruled unconstitutional, they'll have to pay everyone back, and that could be very time-consuming," said Chuck O'Neal, a Longwood resident and member of Speak Up Wekiva whose name also appears on the lawsuit.

Smith said permitting remains on schedule to begin Monday.

Riding a sea turtle is totally illegal.

Riding a sea turtle is totally illegal.

If riding endangered species is in fact illegal (Sea turtles and Manatees for starters), what happened to those two girls and why did those boys jumping on a manatee get off with a little slap on the wrist?

How much trouble this woman could be in

MELBOURNE BEACH -- Pictures on social media show what appear to be girls riding a sea turtle on a Brevard County beach during the critical sea turtle nesting season.

One picture shows what appears to be a young girl looking as if she's riding a large sea turtle, either sitting on or hovering over it with her hands in the air.

The other picture shows another girl, but her hands appeared to be pressed down on the turtle's back. She was either sitting or leaning over its shell.

These pictures of what appear to be two girls riding a sea turtle, allegedly at Melbourne Beach, have sparked outrage on social media and prompted an investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. It is illegal in Florida to harm or harass sea turtles.

Save Lake Eola Park Petition

One of the very few parks left in central Florida and maybe all of Florida where a pet lover can walk with their pet in peace and enjoy the day with friends and Florida is about to chop this off and hand it off to developers?

Local group fights high-rise proposal in Lake Eola Park

City planning board to discuss proposal Tuesday

UPDATED 7:22 AM EDT Jul 21, 2015

The new tower would go up at East Central Boulevard and North Rosalind Avenue but the project has strong critics who plan to make their presence known Tuesday in front of the city planning board.

The 28-story high-rise is designed to have residential units, shops, restaurants and a parking garage. It is the brainchild of Chicago developer Mark Bortz, who owns the two buildings that would be taken down to make way for the high-rise.

The proposal also includes outdoor seating, a water wall and other park enhancements.

But a group called Save Lake Eola Park Park said the land that the new building would take up was deeded from St. Luke’s Cathedral to be used as a public park only.

The development is ultimately subject to City Council’s approval after the municipal board reviews it.

The city planning staff recommended that the proposal be approved, but only under 10 pages of conditions, including everything from trees to lighting. They are meeting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to discuss the proposal.

9 Investigates: Is Florida's bear hunt necessary?

It started out being 250 bears?

Now it is up to 320?

Black Bears food tupelo, saw palmetto, blueberry are being gathered up and sold faster than it can grow!

But 9 Investigates discovered that FWC doesn’t know exactly how many bears live in the state.

“Most animal populations should be estimated every generation, which is roughly every eight years for bears,” said Sarah Barrett, of FWC’s Black Bear Management Program. “We have updated numbers on four of the subpopulations and are collecting the data for the remaining three subpopulations.”

“If they’re going to hunt, they may as well kill them all because they have nothing to eat,” Lake County resident David Baumgardner said.

Baumgardner’s family has lived in Lake County for three generations. He said his family has always shared the land with the bears, but recently they have had far more interactions.

“I have seen more bears, morning, noon, afternoon and night in the past six years as the bears scurry about trying to find native food sources than I have in the previous 65 years,” Baumgardner said.
